About this event

Join our residents for a presentation on Blue Mountain Forest - a local private game preserve and its profound influence on America in saving the American Bison.

The American bison was saved from near extinction and named the national mammal of the United States in 2016. This majestic animal joins the ranks of the Bald Eagle as the official symbol of our country and of our American identity. The efforts of Austin Corbin and Theodore Roosevelt in what is called Blue Mountain Forest is one of the greatest conservation success stories of all time.

The program will share some of the rich history of “Corbin Park” and speak about its animals, their handlers as well as some of the people who were the stewards of this land.  The one-hour presentation including historical photographs of the park is by Dean Stetson and supported by the Newport Historical Society.

When: Wednesday August 9th, 2023 at 2 PM
